A Thanksgiving Blessing

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. In honor of the day, I wanted to share with you my favorite grace. This poem is attributed to the early Pilgrims, and while I don’t know who wrote it, I am so glad they did. It sums up for me just exactly what this day is about- and does so beautifully.

Thanksgiving Blessing

We thank thee for this place in which we dwell;
For the love that unites us;
For the peace accorded to us this day;
For the hope with which we expect the ‘morrow;
For the health, the work, the food,
And the bright skies that make our lives delightful.

Give us grace and strength to forebear and to persevere…
Give us courage and gaiety and the quiet mind.
Spare us to our friends,
Soften us to our enemies.
Bless us, if it may be, in all our innocent endeavors.
If it may not, give us strength to encounter that which is to come,
That we be brave in peril,
Constant in tribulation,
Temperate in wrath,
And in all changes of fortune,
And down to the gates of death,
Loyal and loving to one another.

-Anonymous, attributed to early Pilgrim Days

My best to you all for a wonderful Holiday!
